Job Summary:Responsible for collecting a variety of specimen samples as well as label the blood vials, in a home set-up. Scope includes bringing all blood and specimen samples to the laboratory.
Primary Responsibilities:1. Identifies correct patient of all ages by requesting the patient (guardian) to state his/her full name and comparing with the requisition details.2. Consistently withdraws blood properly using established laboratory procedures (i.e. proper patient identification, proper tube selection, etc.).3. Verifies and collects proper samples required for specific tests. Accurately label specimens (patient name, MRN, initials, date/time and collected, initials of collecting staff) and records on all laboratory requisitions forms (respective phlebotomy log).4. Properly instruct patients of all ages, the correct way to collect urine specimens (i.e. for C&S, GTT’s, etc).5. Correctly processes all laboratory requisitions, forms, and specimens for routine and reference tests.6. Consistently perform and completes duties neatly, accurately, in a timely and professional manner.7. Enforces and follows all laboratory safety rules and reports any possible hazards to the HHC Head Nurse. Following clinical policy with regards to standard precaution.8. Shares appropriate communication with other team members involving difficult venipuncture, timed specimens, etc.9. Maintains an adequate supply of specimen collection equipment (i.e. routine, special test and reference test needs). Correctly processing all incoming supplies.10. Organizes work for effective utilization of time. Reports to work as scheduled.11. Refers to appropriate policy and procedure manuals as necessary and communicates with references labs for specimen requirements.12. Accepts responsibility for and becomes available to work a different shift when workload and/or other conditions warrant.13. Greets patients in courteous manner, responds to patients with empathy and positive interpersonal skills. Continuously works at establishing a good rapport and cooperative working relationship with all co-workers.14. Shows ability to handle unexpected situations and is able to exercise independent thought and actions when necessary.15. Demonstrate competence in all procedures required of a phlebotomist in accordance with institutional policies; with particular emphasis on blood samples, blood cultures, referral tests and specimen requirements.16. Assist in orientation of new staff members as requested.17. Performing other duties as assigned and submitting the daily, weekly and monthly reports as required.
Education / Professional Qualifications:1. Education Degree: Bachelor’s degree in Nursing or Medical Technology.2. Years of Experience: Minimum of 2 years in phlebotomy or related area.3. License: Valid Saudi Commission for Health Specialties (SCFHS) license.
