Position : Procurement Engineer



Job Description:


The Procurement Engineer specializing in Fire Protection and Detection is responsible for managing the procurement process for fire safety systems, ensuring compliance with industry standards, and sourcing equipment, materials, and services that support fire protection and detection systems. This role involves evaluating suppliers, negotiating contracts, managing the acquisition of fire safety components, and maintaining strong supplier relationships to ensure quality, cost-effectiveness, and timely delivery. The Procurement Engineer will work closely with design engineers, project managers, and safety officers to meet the requirements of the organization’s fire protection needs.


Key Responsibilities:


Procurement Management:

Source, evaluate, and select suppliers for fire protection and detection equipment, such as fire alarms, sprinklers, extinguishers, suppression systems, smoke detectors, control panels, and related materials.

Negotiate prices, terms, and conditions with suppliers to secure cost-effective, high-quality products and services.

Issue purchase orders for fire safety materials and monitor order progress, ensuring timely delivery to meet project deadlines.

Review and ensure that procurement activities adhere to the project timelines and budget constraints.



Technical Evaluation & Product Selection:


Collaborate with engineers and design teams to identify the technical specifications and standards required for fire protection systems.

Evaluate and select suppliers based on technical capability, past performance, and adherence to industry standards such as NFPA (National Fire Protection Association), UL (Underwriters Laboratories), or other relevant standards.

Assist in the preparation of technical documentation related to procurement, including specifications, requests for proposals (RFPs), and scope of work for fire protection systems.


Supplier Relationship Management:


Build and maintain strong relationships with suppliers, vendors, and contractors to ensure high standards of service, timely deliveries, and competitive pricing.

Monitor supplier performance through KPIs, quality audits, and feedback, addressing any performance issues promptly.

Resolve any procurement-related issues, such as delays, quality concerns, or discrepancies, in collaboration with suppliers and internal teams.


Compliance & Safety Standards:


Ensure all procured fire protection and detection equipment meet legal, regulatory, and safety standards.

Review and enforce adherence to international fire safety codes, regulations, and standards to ensure compliance across procurement activities.

Work with the safety department to ensure that all fire protection systems meet organizational safety and risk management policies.



Cost Control & Budgeting:


Monitor procurement costs for fire protection and detection systems, striving to identify cost-saving opportunities while maintaining quality and compliance.

Prepare cost estimates and provide detailed procurement reports for budgeting purposes.

Track and report on procurement expenses to ensure projects stay within budget and scope.

Logistics & Inventory Management:


Manage the logistics of fire protection equipment, ensuring proper storage, delivery, and installation.

Oversee inventory management of fire safety equipment, ensuring that spare parts and consumables are readily available for maintenance or future project needs.

Collaboration & Coordination:


Collaborate with project managers, engineers, and safety teams to understand the fire protection requirements for different projects.

Coordinate with construction teams, contractors, and vendors to ensure seamless installation and integration of fire protection systems into new buildings or renovation projects.


Participate in regular project meetings, providing procurement status updates and addressing any potential issues related to fire protection equipment and delivery.

Required Qualifications and Experience:


Education:

Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Supply Chain Management, Procurement, or a related field. A degree in Fire Protection Engineering or a related specialty is preferred.

Professional Certifications:


Certification in procurement or supply chain management (e.g., CPSM, CIPS) is an advantage.

Additional fire safety-related certifications (e.g., NFPA, fire protection engineering qualifications) are desirable.


Experience:


Minimum of 3–5 years of experience in procurement, with a focus on fire protection and detection systems.

In-depth knowledge of fire safety systems, including alarms, sprinklers, fire extinguishing systems, and detection technologies.

Experience in negotiating with suppliers and managing contracts for fire protection equipment.

Familiarity with procurement processes in construction or industrial projects is a plus.

Technical Skills:


Strong knowledge of fire protection codes and regulations (NFPA, UL, etc.).

Familiarity with fire protection systems design and installation.


Preferred Experience:


Experience in large-scale industrial, commercial, or construction projects, with specifically but not limited to sub-contractor finalization, evaluation and finalization.

Prior exposure to integrated building management systems (BMS) with a focus on fire and safety integration.

Understanding of sustainable and energy-efficient fire protection systems.
