Commercial Director - Construction

Key Responsibilities:

  • Strategic Planning:
  • Develop and implement the commercial strategy for the business, ensuring alignment with overall corporate objectives.
  • Identify and pursue new business opportunities to drive growth and profitability.
  • Financial Management:
  • Oversee budgeting, forecasting, and financial reporting for all construction projects.
  • Monitor financial performance, ensuring projects are delivered within budget and to the required quality standards.
  • Conduct regular financial reviews, identifying and mitigating risks to profitability.
  • Contract Management:
  • Lead contract negotiations with clients, subcontractors, and suppliers, ensuring favorable terms and compliance with legal and regulatory requirements.
  • Manage and resolve any disputes that arise during the course of projects.
  • Ensure that all contracts are executed in line with company policies and procedures.
  • Procurement:
  • Oversee the procurement strategy, ensuring cost-effective sourcing of materials and services.
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with key suppliers and subcontractors.
  • Project Management:
  • Work closely with project managers to ensure that all projects are delivered on time, within scope, and to the highest quality standards.
  • Monitor project progress, addressing any issues or delays that may arise.
  • Ensure that health and safety standards are maintained across all sites.
  • Team Leadership:
  • Lead, mentor, and develop the commercial team, fostering a culture of high performance and continuous improvement.
  • Provide training and support to staff as needed to ensure they have the skills and knowledge to perform their roles effectively.
  • Risk Management:
  • Identify potential risks to the business and develop strategies to mitigate these risks.
  • Ensure that the company complies with all relevant regulations and industry standards.
  • Client Relationship Management:
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with clients, ensuring their needs are met and expectations are exceeded.
  • Act as the main point of contact for all commercial matters, ensuring clear and effective communication with clients and stakeholders.


Skills

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, Quantity Surveying, Business Administration, or a related field. An MBA or relevant master’s degree is a plus.
  • Minimum of 10 years of experience in commercial management within the construction industry, with at least 5 years in a senior leadership role.
  • Strong understanding of construction contracts, procurement processes, and project management.
  • Proven track record of managing large-scale construction projects and delivering them successfully.
  • Excellent financial acumen, with experience in budgeting, forecasting, and financial reporting.
  • Strong leadership, communication, and negotiation skills.
  • Ability to work under pressure and manage multiple priorities.
