Laboratory Technician

The Laboratory Technician supports the educational and research objectives of the medical college by performing routine and specialized laboratory tests, maintaining laboratory equipment, and ensuring adherence to safety protocols. This role involves working closely with faculty, researchers, and students to facilitate practical learning experiences and contribute to research projects.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Laboratory Testing:
    • Conduct routine and specialized diagnostic tests on various biological samples (e.g., blood, urine, tissue).
    • Prepare and analyze samples according to established protocols and procedures.
    • Document and report test results accurately and promptly.
  • Equipment Maintenance:
    • Operate, calibrate, and maintain laboratory instruments and equipment.
    • Perform routine maintenance and troubleshooting to ensure equipment functionality.
    • Ensure proper storage and handling of laboratory reagents and supplies.
  • Quality Control:
    • Adhere to quality control and assurance procedures to ensure accuracy and reliability of test results.
    • Participate in the development and validation of new testing methods.
  • Safety and Compliance:
    • Follow safety protocols and maintain a clean, organized laboratory environment.
    • Ensure compliance with institutional, local, and federal regulations and standards.
  • Educational Support:
    • Assist faculty and students with laboratory exercises and practical training.
    • Provide guidance and technical support during laboratory sessions and practical exams.
  • Research Support:
    • Support research projects by preparing samples, conducting experiments, and analyzing data.
    • Assist in the documentation and presentation of research findings.
  • Administrative Duties:
    • Maintain accurate records of test results, equipment maintenance, and inventory.
    • Prepare reports and documentation as required by the department.
Requirements Qualifications:

  • Associate’s degree or higher in Medical Laboratory Technology, Clinical Laboratory Science, or a related field.
  • Certification from a recognized professional body (e.g., ASCP, AMT) is preferred.
  • Proven experience in a clinical or research laboratory setting is an advantage.
  • Strong knowledge of laboratory procedures, equipment, and safety protocols.
  • Excellent organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment and communicate effectively with faculty, students, and researchers.
