Position Overview

The Utilities Engineer is responsible for ensuring reliable, safe, and efficient operation of all utility systems that support ductile iron pipe production. This includes power distribution, compressed air, water supply, hydraulics, steam/thermal systems, cooling towers, furnaces utilities, and wastewater treatment. The engineer leads maintenance, performance monitoring, troubleshooting, and continuous improvement across all utility assets.


Key Responsibilities


Utilities System Operation & Maintenance

  • Oversee daily operation of utility equipment: compressors, chillers, cooling towers, pumps, boilers, furnaces utilities, generators, transformers, HVAC systems, and water treatment units.

  • Ensure uninterrupted supply of utilities to melting, casting, annealing, finishing, and coating sections.

  • Implement preventive and predictive maintenance programs.

  • Troubleshoot breakdowns and coordinate quick corrective actions.


Energy & Resource Management

  • Monitor and optimize energy consumption (electricity, water, gas, diesel, compressed air).

  • Conduct energy audits and recommend cost-saving measures.

  • Reduce downtime and improve system efficiency using KPIs.


Safety & Compliance

  • Ensure all utility systems comply with safety, environmental, and regulatory standards.

  • Conduct risk assessments, SOP preparation, and emergency response planning.

  • Maintain documentation for inspections, calibrations, and compliance audits.


Project Engineering & Upgrades

  • Lead installation and commissioning of new utility equipment.

  • Evaluate vendor proposals, technical specifications, and system modifications.

  • Support plant expansion and modernization projects.


Monitoring & Reporting

  • Maintain utility performance dashboards (pressure, flow, consumption, temperature, load).

  • Analyze trends and implement improvement actions.

  • Prepare daily, weekly, and monthly utility system reports.


Key Skills & Competencies

  • Strong knowledge of mechanical/electrical utility systems.

  • Expertise in compressed air systems, pumps, cooling towers, heat exchangers, furnaces utilities.

  • Ability to read engineering drawings, P&IDs, and technical manuals.

  • Experience with SCADA/BMS/automation preferred.

  • Strong problem-solving and root-cause analysis skills.

  • Good leadership and team coordination.


Qualification

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Industrial, or Utilities Engineering.

  • 5–10 years of experience in heavy manufacturing (preferred: ductile iron pipes, steel, foundry, metallurgical plants, or similar).

  • Experience in preventive and predictive maintenance systems (CMMS).


Work Environment

  • High-temperature industrial setting with rotating machinery.

  • Requires on-call availability in case of utility emergencies.

  • Close collaboration with maintenance, production, safety, and control room teams.
